Create A Change Now contributed to an article on “Chefs join effort to improve kids’ health by changing eating habits” in the Review Journal.

“Trevethan is a member of the board of a new organization, Create a Change Now. So far, the organization has 20 chefs working with the city of Las Vegas and five local schools, planting gardens and showing kids how to use the fruits of their labors.

“Right now, chefs are really popular,” said Candace Maddin, co-founder and president of Create a Change Now. “We’re getting into schools and planting edible gardens so children can get their hands in the ground, pull freshly grown carrots out of the ground. Then we bring the chefs in and show them how to cook them and make them taste good. We’re empowering children to make healthier choices.” – Review Journal July 18, 2010

Create A Change Now’s Board Member, Chef Thomas Trevethan, has been asked to participate in an exciting new initiative led by White House Chef, Sam Kass, called Chefs Move to Schools.  As part of the White House’s Let’s Move campaign to solve the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation, Michelle Obama is calling on chefs to get involved.   The Chefs Move to Schools program, run through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will pair chefs with interested schools in their communities to adopt the school and work with teachers, parents and school nutrition professionals to help educate kids about food and nutrition.  The goal of the program is to promote chefs as the catalyst for creating a new nation of child food advocates and start turning the tide on eating behaviors. The launch event is set for Friday, June 4, 2010 at the White House.
